Joint Wiley A. Branton/Howard Law Journal Symposium
Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM (EDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
You are invited to attend the 10th Annual Wiley A. Branton-Howard Law Journal Symposium on October 24, 2013. Each year, the Howard Law Journal, with the support of Sidley Austin LLP and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, honors Howard Law’s former Dean, civil rights activist, and Sidley partner, the late Wiley A. Branton with this annual symposium. This year, we are excited to partner with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to commemorate their 50th anniversary. The title of this year’s symposium is Civil Rights at a Critical Juncture: Old Conflicts, New Challenges.
Through three panels and the keynote address, the Symposium will explore how civil rights has evolved from focusing on racial discrimination and disparities to now incorporating issues that were previously perceived as separate and distinct. In addition, the Symposium will place a strong emphasis on decisions from the Supreme Court’s 2012-2013 term through an analysis of those decisions and an exploration of strategies on how we, as social engineers can move forward. We hope this Symposium triggers a lively dialogue that shows the intersection between the old and the new and leads the way forward on how we approach and discuss civil rights.
