THE ADVENTURE PROJECT
Networking Happy Hour
NYC’s top female entrepreneurs are celebrating this holiday season by throwing an exclusive cocktail benefit to support female entrepreneurs in Haiti, through the female-founded nonprofit, The Adventure Project. Over drinks and good company, the gathering will bring the NYC entrepreneurship community together to support women entrepreneurs.
The suggested donation for each guest is $20 - which will get one stove into the hands of a family in Haiti. Every $20 is assigned a unique serial number corresponding to a stove in Haiti, so donors can see the process in action, get updates as the stove is built and when it’s sold. Each donation comes with amazing drink specials during the event: $3 select drafts, $5 well drinks & champagne
The Adventure Project
The Adventure Project is a non-profit established to increase investments in positive social enterprises around the world. Becky Straw & Jody Landers, who met while traveling through Liberia, West Africa, founded it in 2010, joining forces to raise awareness and funds to support the world’s most-effective social ventures. In one year they have created 190 jobs around the world.
Every day, 3 billion people in developing countries are exposed to toxic smoke when preparing meals. Cooking on traditional stoves and open fires causes almost 2 million deaths per year, mainly affecting women and young children. This holiday season, The Adventure Project wants to inspire a new holiday tradition, by helping 10,000 families in Haiti to get a clean-burning, eco- friendly stove. For more information, watch the video.
For their holiday campaign, The Adventure Project is supporting an innovative social enterprise in Haiti that sells coal-efficient stoves. Instead of distributing stoves as charity, local non-profits have created a stove business, helping to provide women micro-entrepreneurs with jobs, and getting the products into the hands of families at an affordable price.
