Event Details, i/o Ventures, and Talenthouse are co-sponsoring a Summer Speaker Series around the intersection of technology and Hollywood. 

John August, one of the foremost screenwriters in Hollywood, is visiting San Francisco as part of this series. His bio is listed below:

August's debut film was 1999's critically acclaimed Go, in which he also served as co-producer and second unit director. Since that time, his credits include the Tim Burton-helmed Big Fish, for which he was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, Charlie's AngelsTitan A.E., and Charlie's Angels: Full ThrottleAfter the success of Big Fish, he went on to write the screenplay for both of Tim Burton's 2005 ventures, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (an adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic children's book), and Corpse Bride. August co-created the TV series D.C. for the WB Network. The series only lasted seven episodes before being cancelled. As of 2006, August is writing a feature adaptation of Tarzan and executive producing a movie version of Jordan Mechner's videogame Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for Jerry Bruckheimer's company. He was writing the script for the superhero movie Shazam! before Warner Bros. dropped the project.[3] He runs a website aimed at budding screenwriters,, and a semi-regular Q&A at the Internet Movie Database. His directorial debut, an independently-produced drama entitled The Nines, was screened at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. He recently announced on his blog that he is to write the script for the long-awaited film adaptation of the graphic novel series Preacher. He will also continue to work with Tim Burtonagain for his film Frankenweenie (2012).
