Yes! The Asylum's recently upgraded Hot Craft area is ready and waiting for new jewelry students!
Through this 7-week class you will be introduced you to the arcane and secret techniques of making fine jewelry, as we build on the basics learned in Jewelry I.
Each week, students will have a demonstration of a new skill, covering stone setting, interior piercing, wax carving for casting, using the buffing machine, advanced soldering, and flex shaft accessories for polishing. Students will have the opportunity to put these skills into practice fabricating multiple jewelry projects.
By building on the skills introduced in Jewelry I, students will gain enough further knowledge of the tools around them in order to be confident working independently in the Artisan's Asylum jewelry studio (or in their own).
Jewelry I at Artisans Asylum or proof of basic skills by appointment with the instructor. Students must be at least 18 years of age.
A lab fee of $35 for consumables and sterling silver will be collected at the first class.
What to Bring:
Sketched ideas, and the tools from Jewelry I, and the $35 materials fee in cash or check payable to the instructor. Please wear close-toed shoes and use hair ties to secure long hair. An apron is great for keeping your clothes from destruction but is optional.
Corkie Hobbie has a BFA in Jewelry from Pratt Institute, and worked as a studio assistant for most of her time there. She has been working with metals and creating jewelry since she was fourteen.
