When & Where
Jeffrey Bowman Heart Fund
Welcome to the 5th Annual Jeffrey Bowman Memorial "Golfapalooza"
In August 2007, Jeffrey Bowman was 17 years old when he had a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) while participating in a high school football practice. No one went for an AED or performed correct CPR. Jeffrey was without oxygen for more than 20 minutes before "Flight for Life" arrived, using an AED to restore his heart's rhythm. Jeff passed away one week later. Since Jeffrey's death, we have learned that the leading cause of death in youth athletes is sudden heart failure from undetected heart issues and that one high school-aged athlete suffers a SCA every 2 days in the U.S.
In 2009, the Jeffrey Bowman Heart Fund was established to “Provide AED Access, Placement and Training,” and to raise the needed dollars to purchase and donate AEDs to schools, for use on athletic fields and courts, and other community organizations.
The JBHF also provides CPR and AED training and education, and its volunteers have organized and participated in several heart screenings for student athletes in area Colorado high schools.
Golfapalooza is a tribute to Jeffrey and has become our annual fundraiser. It is an opportunity for friends, family and those interested in supporting this cause to enjoy a truly fun, “Jeffrey-style” golf outing and remember a promising young man, while raising funds to prevent the tragic loss of life due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
All proceeds raised go toward the purchase and donation of AEDs to area schools, athletic teams and organizations - as well as AED and CPR training, providing education and awareness, and participation in heart screenings for youth athletes. To date, JBHF has donated more than 20 AEDs to the community.
It is with deep gratitude that we thank everyone for playing in the tournament and donating and supporting this very important mission.
Bob, Troy and Alex Bowman
There have been more than 200,000* deaths from Sudden Cardiac Arrest this year. Many of these victims could have been saved by early access to an AED.
