Relive the Big Band era and get swinging to the sounds that filled the halls in the Ford’s home in the 1930s and 40s with the Johnny Trudell Orchestra.  Favorites from Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller will take you back in time as tunes float over the lakeside lawn.

Grounds open at 6 p.m.  Concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

About Johnny Trudell

Johnny Trudell is one of today's finest trumpet players and the respected director of the Johnny Trudell Orchestra/Big Band. Johnny has performed with the big bands of Tommy Dorsey, Bob Crosby, Tex Beneke, and Quincy Jones. He served as lead trumpet player for Motown Records, recording with such greats as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, The Supremes, The Temptations, and The Four Tops. Johnny's classic style and exceptional versatility has led to performances with Dizzy Gillespie, Jon Faddis and Donald Byrd to performing as a featured artist with leading symphonic ensembles.

His famed Orchestra has backed the legendary Bob Hope, Wayne Newton, Tony Bennett, Johnny Carson, Red Skelton, Jerry Lewis, Sammy Davis, Jr., Bill Cosby, among others.

The Johnny Trudell Orchestra has performed for national political events such as the 1980 Republican Convention and has played for Presidents Bush and Reagan, among other politicians and dignitaries.

Directions:

From I-94 Eastbound

Exit at the Vernier/8 Mile exit and turn right. Follow Vernier until it ends at Lake Shore Road. Turn left and continue approximately one mile. Edsel & Eleanor Ford House is on the right.


From I-94 Westbound

Exit at the 9 Mile exit and turn left. Follow 9 Mile until it ends at Jefferson. Turn right on Jefferson Ave. (which becomes Lake Shore Rd.) and continue approximately one mile. Edsel & Eleanor Ford House is on the left.


Parking:

General Admission ticket holders: parking is available on the grass lot on the west side of Lake Shore Road for a nominal charge of $2. After parking please enter the grounds through the main visitor entrance. There are pathways to make the 10-minute walk to the lake side of the house from the parking area. 


Handicap Parking for General Admission ticket holders: There will be handicap parking spaces available in the grass lot on the west side of Lake Shore.  A handicap shuttle will be available once you have crossed Lake Shore Road and entered the Ford House property.


Preferred seating: Parking will be in the Ford House Activities Center lot. A shuttle will be available for transportation to the house. Please present your preferred parking pass at the Ford House North entrance. No additional parking fee.


Schedule:

6 p.m. - grounds open

7:30 p.m. - performance begins

9 p.m. – concert concludes


Additional Information:

The entire grounds will be open to guests to walk or visit the gardens.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase.  Picnics are allowed, however, due to state laws, alcoholic beverages may not be brought onto the grounds. Bags will be subject to searches. 

Folding chairs and blankets are welcome.

The House will not be open for tours.


Cancellation Policy:

In the event of a cancellation due to weather there will be a make-up concert on Saturday, August 27. If weather does not permit a concert on Saturday, you may redeem your Jazz at Ford House ticket for a future Ford House event from a designated list of events.
