Event Details

For 58 years (since 1954) the Greenville Jaycees have taken children from the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club shopping for Christmas. This year we will once again be taking over 200 children shopping at Wal-Mart. Each kid is given a $25 budget to purchase Christmas gifts for their family.  As a volunteer, you will be assigned a child to assist shopping. You will help the child pick out gifts and budget their money.

You are volunteering time to assist the child, you are not required (nor allowed) to contribute money to this event. So what exactly do you do?

  • You will be assigned a child who has $25 credit to use @ Walmart
  • You will find out which family members your child would like to shop for
  • Walk the child around and help them budget their ideas (some kids are amazing and will buy 6-7 gifts with $25)
  • Once done, simply walk the child through the register and then to a Salvation Army or Jaycees representative

Afterwards the kids are bused back to the Boys and Girls club where 25 boys and 25 girls will be rewarded with a brand new bike. The others will receive special gifts purchased ahead of time.

All volunteers are invited back to the Salvation Army Kroc Center to help give out the bikes and interact with the children. This part usually lasts until around 9-9:30. The more, the merrier!

You do not need to print the ticket generated by Eventbrite and emailed to you.  Just make sure you show up to the event on time.
