THE REBEL UNDERGROUND PRESENTS
A LIVE TRIBUTE TO
WITH SUPPORTING ACTS
KINGS OF SPADE
Janis Joplin is the very first iconic undisputed "Queen of Rock'n'roll." With her electric and uninhibited live performances that featured an intense, emotional, bluesy voice, Janis' legacy includes a quadruple platinum selling album, a trove of performance clips that have garnered millions of youtube hits, and a major influence on many artists including Stevie Nicks, Joss Stone, Jerry Garcia, Florence and the Machine, and local blues/rock band Kings of Spade. On her birthday, January 19th, Honolulu's soul singers including Yoza, Kasi Nunes (Kings of Spade), Erin Smith (Throwdowns), Maria Remos, Big Mox (Bentos), Makke Farley (Sex Puppets), Violetta Beretta, Kahnma K, and Devon Williams will be belting her hits like "Piece Of My Heart," "Ball-n-Chain," "Bobby McGee," with a 7-peice live tribute band complete with keys and horns.
KINGS OF SPADE urban/funk/soul/blues/rock
KINGS OF SPADE dish out a raw and grungey blend of urban funk, dirty blues, deep soul and rock. Don't let the tattooed arms or florescent mohawk of lead singer, Kasi Nunes from Waianae, fool you. Her whaling vocals are fiery, passionate, and a unique hybrid of soul queens Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin. Proud of not being boxed in a specific genre, the KINGS can remind you of a classic fist-pumping rock band in one number, take you for a dance-pop ride in the next, and then charge straight into an old smokey blues riff. Their shameless dancing, foot-stomping, and highly energetic live show has landed them gigs at LA's House of Blues, The Avalon, and The Viper Room, as well opening for world-famous acts like Bon Jovi, Daughtry, Mutemath, Deftones, and Everclear. Their song “Boys In The Band” is featured on the film soundtrack for the Warner Brother’s released “Utopian Society.” Title track of their 2009 debut album “Crave” was also featured in a Roxy breast cancer awareness commercial. 2012 has marked the band's biggest year to date having kicked off a cross-country tour at the Autumn Lights Festival in Los Angeles and capturing fans in Arizona, Austin, Boston, Vermont, and New York. A 2nd major US tour is slated for March 1st-31st.
One of Honolulu's queens of acoustic soul and R&B.
