Doublers Collective was founded in 2010 by Monica Shriver as an ensemble that would perform on multiple woodwind instruments in a progressive jazz setting. The ensemble is made up of in-demand, established jazz musicians, featuring five saxophonists with piano, bass and drums. Doublers Collective is a high caliber, enthusiastic group that explores the color and sonority possibilities available using different combinations of piccolo, flute, alto flute, bass flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, sopranino saxophone, soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, bass saxophone, and bassoon both with and without rhythm section.
The mission of Doublers Collective focuses on performance clinics and community outreach. It also provides for collaboration with some of the best jazz composers in the world today in order to create a repertoire for this unique instrumentation. Doublers Collective has already commissioned new works from some of the world’s top jazz composers, including Mike Crotty, Alan Baylock and Michael Abene.
