6th Annual Networking Event for IU Entrepreneurial Alumni & Students
The Indiana University Entrepreneurship Club brings together Kelley alumni and current students who are pursuing entrepreneurial or corporate innovation careers. The goal is to create a supportive network where entrepreneurs can help each other succeed.
Keynote: Scott A. Jones
Scott A. Jones is a veteran entrepreneur, inventor, strategist, venture capitalist and co-founder of ChaCha, today's leading free, real-time Q&A service. By allowing anyone with a mobile phone to ask any question in conversational English, ChaCha is the world's easiest-to-use and most comprehensive way to access answers and information.
Through its unique "ask a smart friend" platform that Jones developed, ChaCha has answered over 2 billion questions from more than 40 million unique users per month, via the Web (www.chacha.com), iPhone app, Android app, SMS text, and voice (1-800-2-ChaCha).
Before developing ChaCha, at the age of 25, Jones co-founded and led Boston Technology, where he invented a massively scalable, easy-to-use voicemail system. Used by over two billion people around the world, it was later sold to Comverse for $843 million.
Subsequently, Jones founded the Internet-based music service company Gracenote. Gracenote touches hundreds of millions of music fans and TV viewers every day. The Gracenote database is the largest source of music and video metadata on the planet, featuring descriptions of more than 130 million tracks and TV listings for 28 countries. The database receives more than 500 queries every day and upwards of 180 billion every year. The company was sold to Sony in 2008 for $260 million.
Jones is now driven by the singular focus of making ChaCha the world's easiest-to-use and most comprehensive way to get valuable info on the go. More information on Scott is available at www.scottajones.com.
Following the keynote event, everyone is invited to stay and network. It is a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect with old friends, and for everyone to meet fellow Indiana entrepreneurs.
Highlighting the formal networking is the Open Mic Networking session. In rapid-fire fashion, entrepreneurs briefly summarize their business and their needs. Whether the need be funding, employees, partners, or know-how, Open Mic spreads the word and enables faster connections. Click here for a short video that details the format of the event.
