iteach: Using Blogging and Social Networking to Enhance Teaching
Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 4:30 PM (EDT)
Most of us use social networking and blogging in our daily lives. The benefits of using blogging and social networking, including several effective blog-based activities and usage of social networking for learning, have been documented. Encouraging students’ reading and writing through weblogs has the potential to extend their learning and coconstruct content knowledge.
Furthermore, blogs can be useful as assessment and information-exchange tools, and for acknowledging the responses of others. Even though blogging is often used to describe purely text websites, audio blogging (consisting of podcasts) has grown increasingly popular. Social networking sites provide a secure blogging site and for a dynamic learning community. Recently, the benefits of using blogging and social networking have been extended to teacher education. The implications are extensive. Using social networking and blogging in teaching can be beneficial for digital natives. In this session, all participants create their own website in Ning to create an inventive, creative, and committed learning community. I will also provide a detailed understanding of revolutionary collaborative and content representation tools and their application to teacher education (e.g. tips, benefits, types, and methods). We will do real-time creation and practice.
