Should we have a Downtown Master Plan?

Please join us Wednesday, August 22 to hear from experts on city master planning and plans, and to share your thoughts about planning ahead for Los Altos.

Here is what a few people have said about plans:

"You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." – Yogi berra

" Plans are nothing; planning is everything." – Dwight D. Eisenhower

"Life if what happens while you are making other plans." – John Lennon

“Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possilibities.  Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.” – Gloria Steinem

“If you don’t have a plan for yourself, you’ll be part of someone else’s” – American Proverb

“Good fortune is what happens when opportunity meets with planning.” – Thomas Edison

A Los Altos Forward Community Conversation

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

5:30-7:30pm

The Bike Shop, 359 State Street, Los Altos

With Robyn Reed and Riki Nishimura

Robyn Reed is a registered Landscape Architect currently practicing in the Bay Area, designing and overseeing the construction of small to large-scale residential landscape projects for Shades of Green Landscape Architecture. Prior to this, Robyn spent many years at Sasaki Associates in Boston as a lead landscape and urban designer, working on award-winning domestic and international planning projects. Native to Los Altos, Robyn has recently returned to the Bay Area after 20 years of living out of state, giving her a unique perspective on Los Altos and its context. In addition to her work in practice, she has taught urban design studios at the Rhode Island School of Design and Harvard University.

Riki Nishimura is a senior urban design leader at Woods Bagot Architects in San Francisco.  After graduating from the Harvard Graduate School of Design he spent many years at Sasaki Associates in Boston as the lead urban designer on multiple award-winning projects. Trained in both architecture and urban design, Riki has worked at a range of scales, from large scaled mixed-use urban developments and town plans, to urban cultural parks and campuses. Riki believes that a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach between landscape, architecture, urban design, and the public is the key to creating memorable, sustainable, and enduring places. His current research centers on ways to repair the contemporary city.
