iOS App Development for Beginners

Part of Learning Junction's Code for Beginners Series - Saturday June 29th &

Sunday June 30th 10am-5pm

Are you ready to build the next big thing in mobile applications, and want to take

the first step? Looking for a way to jumpstart your career while saving time and

frustration? Learning Junction’s iOS App Development for Beginners class

provides a comprehensive course for individuals looking to enter the world of

developing apps for Apple’s iOS devices.

Whether you are an aspiring entrepreneur with the next big idea, a developer

looking to quickly pick up iOS skills, or simply work in a technical field and want

to gain a better understanding of mobile development, Learning Junction's iOS

App Development for Beginners will guide you through everything you need to

publish your first app to the App Store.

Who are the instructors?

Our instructors are experienced, professional developers with a passion for teaching and technology.

We're very excited to have Ash Furrow Teaching this course.

Ash Furrow is an iOS Developer working at Teehan+Lax. He's a passionate developer who throws

himself at the task at hand, including his Blog (http://ashfurrow.com), Podcast

(http://springboardshow.com), and several books Beginning Objective-C and UICollectionView: The

Complete Guide. His latest book teaches beginners how to write their first iOS app – the first

chapter is available online for free http://yourfirstiosapp.com/.

What's the course like?

Our small class sizes allow the instructors to engage students with a mix of

lecture-style learning and hands-on projects in a fun and supportive

environment. Instructors can also tailor the course content to the needs of each

particular group of attendees, to ensure maximum value. We find that this

approach allows students to move at their own pace and meet their own

learning objectives, while also allowing for individual assistance when required.

What will I learn?

The iOS App Development for Beginners course will examine the following

topics, using app-building exercises to reinforce concepts taught during the

lecture portions. These topics will include:

1. Apple’s Xcode IDE, along with associated tools like the iOS Simulator and

Interface Builder.

2. The Objective-C programming language, and the frameworks comprising the

iOS Software Development Kit (SDK).

3. Building a basic application.

4. Designing and implementing the application’s user interface.

5. The different iOS navigation paradigms in iOS.

6. How to store data on the device.

7. Interacting with web services.

8. The App Store submission process.

Additional content may be introduced and customized, depending on the

instructor and the interests of the workshop attendees.

What will I need?

All attendees are required to provide their own Macintosh computer running the

latest version of OS X Mountain Lion, numerically 10.8. The latest version of

Xcode is all required, this can be downloaded for free from the App Store in OS X.
