Introduction to PostGIS
Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 10:00 AM (EST)
Note: This is an online, instructor-led workshop.
PostGIS is a spatial extension to the PostgreSQL object-relational database, which enables PostgreSQL to be used as a database for geographic information systems. PostGIS is a core component of the OpenGeo Suite.
This half day course will introduce attendees to PostGIS. Attendees will learn about and create spatial databases, load data from a variety of sources into a spatial database, and perform queries against the data. Basic SQL syntax will be covered.
If you have any questions about this event, please call us at (877) OPENGEO.
Who should attend:
Anyone interested in spatial databases and web mapping is encouraged to attend, but familiarity with basic GIS concepts and using the command line is suggested.
The course will reference the version of PostGIS that is included as part of the OpenGeo Suite, so attendees are asked to install the OpenGeo Suite locally on their own machines for the purposes of this workshop. You must successfully install the OpenGeo Suite prior to the beginning of the course. If you are having troubles, please post your issues to the OpenGeo Suite Community Forum no later than 48 hours before the course begins.
Web instructions for the actual training session will be e-mailed to all paid participants approximately 5-7 days before training begins.
