Event Details

What will you learn?

This workshop will walk participants through the steps involved in infographic creation (including gathering and analyzing data, finding the story, and designing an accurate and effective information graphic). Upon completion of the day, participants will have a solid understanding of how data, storytelling and design intersect in ways that are conducive to explaining, disseminating and understanding information.

Some topics covered:

- Identifying the purpose for your graphic, and taking into consideration context, message and audience

- Useful tools for preparing, organizing and exploring data

- The basics of data literacy (Don't worry! This won't be complicated math — just an introduction to the ideas and terms that will enable you to work more confidently with numbers)

- Using visual analysis to find the story

- Infographic design basics: Understanding the brain in order to make effective graphics

- Thinking visually: How to balance aesthetics and accessibility

- And much more!

Who is this for?

Designers or data holders who are interested in getting started with infographic creation. Whether you work in a corporate setting, are a government employee or a journalist, if your job involves communicating information and data, then you will benefit from this course. This day is NOT for experienced data visualization experts. Feel free to contact me if you are unsure whether this workshop will suit your needs.

Cost:

The cost is $230 a person (unless you get the $195 early bird ticket!), which does not include the 13% HST.

Will I get fed?

No, but you will get coffee! There will be a break for lunch, but you will have to find your own. The Hub is located in downtown Ottawa, so there are many affordable locations near by to grab a meal.

Extras:

You do not need to bring a laptop, but you may if you wish. The class size is limited to approximately 20 participants to facilitate interaction and a supportive learning environment.

Please contact me if you have any questions - and check out my website if you are interested in seeing the kind of work I do.
