The Basic Computer Skills course will cover an overview of the following items:

    • How computers work,
    • Hardware and Software,
    • Types of computer system,
    • Inside of a computer: Computer case, Power supply, port, Expansion card, Input and output, Mouse, keyboard, Printer, Monitor and Video card, Modem, sound card, Scanner, memory, cpu, Memory cache, Bus, Hard drive, Floppy Drive, Cd-rom/ DVD/ Rewritable Drives, Tape Drive, Battery, Screen, Input and output Device,
    • Storage Devices,
    • Application Suite( Word , Excel, PowerPoint,)
    • Operating system,
    • Introduction to Networking,
    • Introduction to the internet,
    • Introduction to E-Mail

Introduction to Computers

In this course student will learn the following skills; Hardware, Software, How computer work, Bytes, Types of computer system, Inside of a computer and different computer parts, computer Case, power supply, Ports. Expansion Card, input and output, Mouse, keyboard, how printers work, Monitors and video cards, Modem, sound card, Scanner, memory , CPU, Floppy, Cd, DVD and cd-writer.

 Word Processing

This course will cover the following; The use of a portable computer such as a laptop, software installation, windows XP etc, Microsoft words, Excel, Power point, spread sheet, database, storage device, CPU.


Students will learn the basic types of computers and Network application, How to setup a computer network, Network parts, how information is stored, how information is exchanged, network security, introduction to internet, how information is transferred using the network.


This course will basically teach students the following skills; surfing the internet, Web browser, Multimedia on the web, cutting and pasting, shopping on the web, searching the web, Mailing list, E-mail, E-mail addresses, how files are stored,

We have limited numbers of computers, if you are considered in the waiting list you will have to bring your own portable laptop.

Registration Fee will be at discounted price of $50.

Students who will successfully finish the course will recieve a certificate from Ethiopian Community and Cultural Center! Seats are limited hurry and apply!

The Ethiopian Community and Cultural Center (ECCC) of the Bay Area was established in 2001 as a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) community based organization to empower Ethiopians and Ethiopian-Americans through education, advocacy, services and development of community based resources. We coordinate educational programs and social services that empower and support Ethiopian immigrants/refugees to become self-sufficient through programs and services to strengthen social and cultural competency.
