MakeIt Labs is hosting a TIG Welding Workshop! Students will learn how to weld using the Tungsten Inert Gas welding process.
Learn how to use the basic TIG welding equipment in this safety and basic use class. Get started creating quality weld beads on mild steel.
Students will learn in a 4 hour session:
• An overview of welding terminology,
• Best safety practices as applies to welding,
• TIG Equipment: Component descriptions, setting the controls for the metal to be welded, Tungsten types and proper sharpening techniques, TIG Filler Metal and Shielding Gases,
• Demonstrations, and supervised hands on practice.
Our intent for this introductory workshop is to have all participants successfully manipulating a weld puddle, controlling arc length, travel speed, and heat input, and “reading” the weld and welding torch for signs of inconsistencies.
MakeIt Labs will provide access to the cutting and grinding tools needed for working with metal.
Mandatory: Closed-toed shoes made of natural fibers or leather, long sleeved shirt, long pants. Welding hood and gloves provided by MakeIt Labs.
Members can use the successful completion of this class as authorization to use the TIG welder for their own projects and personal use (subject to current board rules for the space.)
