Intro to Access Databases for Librarians/Literacy staff/volunteers, Part 3
Learn to use Access 2007 or 2010 to create and use database files. In a database, you may store client or customer contact information, inventory, movies and other resources, or other large sets of data. You can use Access to input data and then work with it by extracting specific records and sorting the results to get useful reports.
Part 1 topics include getting familiar with the Access environment and working with the principal objects - tables, queries, forms, and reports - to achieve a comfort level with the purpose of each object. In addition, part 1 will cover creating a database file, creating tables, adding and editing records, and creating simple queries. Access is a four-part course.
Part 2 will cover setting properties in tables, creating complex criteria in queries, setting table relationships, and using related tables.
Part 3 will cover creating and using data entry forms and subforms, crosstab and parameter queries, and importing, exporting, and linking external data.
Part 4 includes creating reports, creating macros, and database management.
Carolyn Bibles, a computer software instructor and Access consultant, will teach the class. There is no prerequisite for this class. Students need to enroll in all 4 parts (Aug 27, Sep 10, Sep 17 & Sep 24) or go on a paper waiting list with Melanie Price email@example.com. No exceptions.
If your library or literacy organization is >60 miles away from ODL, a travel stipend of up to $115/night for overnight stay may be available. (Hotel Room Cost + $25 up to $115 total.) Mileage also may be reimbursed at 30 cents/mile if you are paying for your own gas & cannot collect from your library/literacy organization. Stipend contracts will be made out to the library/literacy organization and it will be your responsibility to collect your reimbursement from such organization. No contracts will be written until the class has been attended and proof of overnight stay (if applicable) has been shown to the Office of Library Development.
