Event Details

Beginning iPhone and Android programmers can learn the basics of iPhone and Android in introductory mobile classes. Students can register for both the iPhone and Android classes or can register for just the iPhone class or Android class individually.

The iPhone class is scheduled for Friday, September 24 from 6:00PM to 10:00PM. The Android class is scheduled for Monday, September 27 from 6:00PM to 10:00PM. Both classes are at Hacker Dojo in Mountain View.

Note: This is a special price for September month.

  • Creating iPhone and iPad templates in Xcode projects
  • Objective-C & Debugging
  • MVC model & Frameworks
  • Variable Instances, Properties, Methods
  • ViewController & Memory Management
  • Xcode & Interface Builder
  • Calendar, Date, Timer
  • Image, Audio, Animation, WebView

Android Class Outline:

  • Setting up Eclipse to create and run Android projects
  • Lifecycle of an Activity
  • Intents, Services and Broadcast Receiver
  • Techniques for debugging Android projects
  • Screen layouts and multiple device screens
  • Integrating maps and determining location
  • Uploading apps to the Android Market

Preregistration on iPhone and Android classes together cost $50 per student. The iPhone and Android class individually are $30 per student for preregistration. The classes individually are $40 at the door.

Class Preparation


iPhone Class

  • Mac OSX 10.6.3 - Snow Leopard
  • iTune 9.2
  • Apple Developer Account (FREE)
  • iOS4 SDK

       Target Audience:

  • Never code in Objective-C
  • Never develop an iOS app
  • Never publish an iOS app in the App Store

Android  Class

  • Download and install Eclipse and the Android SDK
  • Be familiar with Java

Bess Ho is consultant in UI Engineering in both mobile and web technology. Her team “Don’t Move My Mouse” won “Honorable Mention” - most “entertaining” and most “potential” Facebook social game at Girl In Tech at Facebook Developer Garage. She led another team “Whack A Mouse” and won “Honorable Mention” at iPad Developer Camp earning a cover story on USAToday newspaper in the same week of Apple WWDC. She led another team “Chief Medical Officer” to win Health category at iPhone Developer Camp. She is the Nokia OSPF winner as mobile developer. She is official Samsung Mobile Innovator “Star”. She is also elected as Official PayPal External Council. She spoke at Web2.0 Expo SF, Where2.0 and many developer events.

Her wide background in computer systems and languages is includes HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, Java, J2EE, PostgreSQL, C, and C++ among others. She received her doctorate from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
