Event Details

Violence Against Women: A Panel Making International Connections

In recognition of International Women’s Daythis panel of representatives of community and college groups will discuss the implications of gender-based violence.

WHEN: Wed, March 6, 2013 - Noon 

WHERE: Angelina Pedroso Center at NEIU - Room B-159

WHAT: A panel discussion dialogue exploring violence against
women internationally

WHO: Representatives from area community/college groups will sit on the panel and discuss issues affecting women of color worldwide

WHY: March 8 is International Women’s Day and the recent media of gang rapes in India, Bosnia and others provide a crucial and timely platform 

Special thanks to the Chicago Foundation for Women, Mujeres Latinas en Acción, & The NEIU Women's Resource Center.

PANEL MODERATED BY: Professor Dr. Shelley Bannister 

Dr. Shelley Bannister, distinguished professor, justice studies and women’s studies, is in her 25th year of teaching and mentoring at NEIU. Dr. Bannister earned the title of distinguished professor when in 2011 she was named the 2011 Audrey Reynolds Distinguished Teaching Professor. This annual award is given to a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in teaching.

 

 

 

 PAVE: Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment works to educate communities about sexual and domestic violence, empower victims, and eradicate injustice. PAVE's work has been featured on CNN, Today Show, Dr. Drew Show and TIME. PAVE has 50 chapters and affiliates. PAVE's efforts boldly aspire to one day transform our nation into one free from sexual assault and domestic violence -- and to ensure that until we collectively realize this transformative vision, that no victim ever feels alone or disempowered.
