The View From Here: Class Dismissed views the high school dropout crisis through the lives of three young people: Geronimo Garcia is a 17-year-old gang member who was expelled from school for fighting, then dropped out of expulsion school, Roosevelt Webb is a 22-year-old former dropout who will be the first in his family to graduate…if he finishes his senior year, and Unyque Jackson is an 18-year-old mom whose daughter was born in the middle of her senior year.
Class Dismissed explores alternative schools and specialized programs in the Valley that are aiming to keep kids like Geronimo, Roosevelt and Unyque in class and on track toward successful lives. We meet the teachers, mentors and family members who are helping them navigate life’s challenges in and out of school. From this up-close and personal vantage point, Class Dismissed raises larger questions about the drop out crisis in California, what’s at stake for the future and what are the possible solutions.
