Special Introduction by School of International and Public Affairs Dean Merit E. Janow
Moderated by Endeavor Global President Fernando Fabre

Miguel McKelvey, co-founder of WeWork, is building an exploding global real estate business by creating communities and focusing on the office space requirements of very early stage ventures in cities whose local governments are enthusiastically trying to spur job creation. Brad Hargreaves, co-founder of General Assembly, is leading the global expansion of GA’s unique business model focused on providing practical education for entrepreneurs through their “trade school for the 21st century” educational approach.

In the Media and Entertainment capital of the world, Mayor Michael Bloomberg appointed Katherine Oliver commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, which includes the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, NYC Media, and NYC Digital. An economic impact study released by the Boston Consulting Group in 2012 found that New York City's entertainment industry during Oliver's tenure as film commissioner had grown to account for a $7.1 billion annual direct spend in New York City, an increase of $2 billion since 2002, and that the local industry created 30,000 jobs in New York City.

The panel will be moderated by Fernando Fabre, president of Endeavor Global. Endeavor is leading the global movement to catalyze long-term economic growth by selecting, mentoring, and accelerating the best high-impact entrepreneurs around the world. While Endeavor certainly cultivates relationships with national governments, they are finding more immediate success at the municipal level.

Columbia School of International and Public Affairs Dean Merit E. Janow is an internationally recognized expert in international trade and investment, with extensive experience in academia, government, and business.
