Designed with the unique needs of consultants in mind, this course provides you with a thorough grounding in the skills and techniques required to design, facilitate, and post-process Innovation Games of all types, both in-person and online. In addition, the Innovation Games for Consultants course delivers the skills that consultants need in order to promote Innovation Games-based engagements to their clients. Now including Gamestorming!

Upon completing this course, you will be able to integrate Innovation Games® and Gamestorming into your existing service offerings, and sell these services to new and existing clients. Along the way they you will pick up some top tips for improving your facilitation and presentation skills.

Content Outline

  • High-level overview of the planning, playing, and post-processing process for game sessions;
  • Detailed investigation of several case studies;
  • Review and discussion–how best can these techniques be adopted to participants’ existing client engagements;
  • Selling and marketing the games to your clients

Course Structure and Topics

The two-day course is built on the “learn by doing” model of education, relying on real-world case studies and in-class practice and discussion. Topics covered include:

  • Identifying the areas in which Innovation Games can positively impact market research efforts
  • Determining which game or games are best suited to any given situation
  • High-level overview of the planning, playing and post-processing process for game sessions
  • Detailed investigation and hands-on practice of real-world case studies
  • Thorough grounding in game facilitation and presentation skills

About Serious Games

Traditional thinking that work and play don’t mix is just plain wrong. Research shows that human beings have been hard-wired to express themselves and interact with each other through play. Engaging customers, employees and stakeholders through Innovation Games or Gamestorming delivers deeper, more actionable insight than is available through stodgy brainstorming sessions, online surveys, focus groups or other tools. 

Innovation Games and Gamestorming are group activities that use game thinking and game dynamics to engage the participants. Serious games like this are serious business and they attracting attention from companies such as Cisco, Yahoo!, SAP, Reed Elsevier, Adobe and NetApp. 


The class runs two for two days, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM and will include lunch.


Although not strictly required, it is helpful if you read the book Innovation Games®: Creating Breakthrough Products Through Collaborative Play before the course.

You are encouraged to submit real-world case studies of their own ahead of the course so that these can be incorporated into the programme.

Depot BG Building

The course will be held at Depot BG which occupies the ground floor of the former Amsterdam city archives. The buiding is an important architectural monument and dates from the 1890's.

Today it is occupied by an eclectic mix of creative professionals and small businesses. The perfect place to learn all about Innovation Games. 

Depot BG is within walking distance of Amsterdam Amstel train station. You can also take Tram Number 4 from Amsterdam Central Station in the direction RAI and get off at the Lutmastraat stop.
