Dr. Mike North

Dr. Mike North graduated summa cum laude with bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in science and engineering and has been widely published, including in the journal Nature. Mike’s work finds him at the intersection of the human experience, technology, and storytelling. Called upon by the Discovery Channel to develop and host the show the Prototype This!, Mike built crack teams to create never-before-seen spectacles of engineering. In the process Dr. North developed Cooperative Innovation to leverage the power of groups of experts to rapidly innovate new products, machines, and breakthrough inventions. Seeking to use Cooperative Innovation for good, Mike founded the nonprofit ReAllocate, which engages world-class-talent to work real-world-problems. As a celebrity engineer and maker evangelist, Dr. North delivers inspirational talks internationally on subjects ranging from innovation to education to community building. He teaches a course on Cooperative Innovation at UC Berkeley, has his own design firm North Design Labs, is a co-founder of Made in America (a national public-private partnership re-shoring American manufacturing), co-invented a cookware device and co-founded the company Convectop, LLC, co-founded IDEATE (a collective gathering Burning Man thought leaders), and is a resident at the Embassy Network in San Francisco. To get away Mike enjoys yoga and loves high alpine backpacking.
