Influencing Student Retention Workshop

Graduation is the End Result

Keeping students engaged and enrolled takes a school-wide commitment. Every student is valuable, whether they’re enrolled for a four-week or two-year program, and every student enrolls with the goal of graduation and employment.

During this workshop you’ll learn school-wide strategies that keep students in school and create an environment to help overcome the challenges that often result in student drops.

You’ll learn:

The important role of teachers

  • Identifying teacher strengths and weaknesses
  • Creating a schedule that maximizes teacher performance
  • Effective communication between faculty and administration

Why teacher evaluations are a retention tool

  • Developing evaluations that identify key performance indicators for program outcomes
  • Conducting affective evaluations
  • Supervisory responsibilities that make the evaluation meaningful

  • Early warning signs and first response
  • Role of teachers in attendance monitoring
  • Best practices to encourage attendance
  • The role and timing of advising students about attendance

Listening to Students

  • Evaluating what the student isn’t saying
  • Appropriate handling of a student complaint
  • Response to the student and teacher
  • Development of next steps

Graduation as a retention tool – keeping an eye on the end result

  • Integrating job seeking as a retention tool
  • Keeping the dream alive

BONUS! Roundtable discussions will be held from 3:30 – 4:30 PM following the workshop to discuss issues and concerns common to the schools and provide a networking opportunity.
