2:00pm screenings will be preceded by tastings of spectacular, rather rare beers from the exceptional portfolio of importer Vanberg & DeWulf, the only beer importer ever nominated for a James Beard Foundation award. (The founders of the company live in Chicago and are fans of the Music Box.) Here’s your chance to hobnob with fellow foodies, catch a great film from our Classic Matinee Series, and sip, savor, and celebrate specialty beers from Belgium, France, Italy, England, and Iceland.
Doors and tastings will open at 1:15pm. No alcohol will be available for sale at the theatre, but all selections offered at the tastings can be purchased at any Binny’s Beverage Depot location. Representatives of Vanberg & DeWulf Beer Distributors and Binny’s & Wirtz Beverage Illinois will be on hand to educate filmgoers on the beers of choice and each screening will include an introduction of the film. For those who have always said, “I love the classic matinees the Music Box Theatre offers, but 11:30am on a weekend is impossible for me to attend,” here is your chance!
This week's screening is SABATA. After an acrobatic bank robbery leaves a town without a safe, the mysterious Sabata (Lee Van Cleef) lends his services in recovery of the vault. Things quickly escalate into to blackmail and gunplay, involving politically powerful criminal boss Stengel. Aided by string-playing Banjo, mute acrobat Alleycat, and alcoholic Civil War vet Carrincha, Sabata sets out with his comic book posse to extort Stengel for everything he’s worth. Filled with wild stunts, quick zooms, and whip pans, Sabata is one of the most energetic and entertaining Spaghetti Westerns around!
