Event Details

Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time to play a major role in helping to clean-up Indian Rock.

Indian Rock (in the South Bay) is one of the premier Bay Area crags with amazing bouldering, top rope, and sport climbs. Many climbers know it as home to some of the best boulder problems in the greater Castle Rock/Sanborn County area.

Join the Bay Area Climbers Coalition in partnering with the Sanborn/Santa Clara County Parks department to take on some needed cleaning and maintenance around Indian Rock.

Besides all the awesome work that we will be doing, there will also be tasty free food, VIP/reserved parking, sweet raffle prizes, and post clean-up event sloper crushing.

Getting to Indian Rock

Full description and directions on Mountain Project website

Every GPS and map application is a bit different and there are lots of ways to get to Indian Rock so take a minute and check a map before you head out if this is your first time getting there.

We have found the easiest way to get to Indian Rock is the following:

  1. Off CA-85 - exit Saratoga Ave - head west
  2. Continue on Saratoga Ave, it will become CA State Route 9
  3. Follow CA State Route 9 up the mountain.  The first stop sign you get to is CA-35 - turn left
  4. Follow CA-35 for about 2.5 miles - you will see Castle Rock State Park on your right, go about 100 feet further and you will see Indian Rock on your left.

Volunteer Roles

Teams of 2 or 3 will be sent to each of the different bouldering and rope climbing areas to pick up trash, clear trails, identify and block off "rogue" trails, and brush off any excess chalk.

The "main event" will take place at Indian Rock itself.  Volunteers are needed to help with the construction of a trail from upper to lower Indian Rock. The current trail is causing erosion issues, and in general is unsafe and unsightly for climbers, hikers, and other users of the park space.

Parking - We will be working with the Sanborn/Santa Clara County Parks department to block off the parking spots at Indian Rock.  Please try and carpool with other climbers from your area.  You can arrange carpools via the Bay Area Climbers Coalition's facebook group.

 - We are partnering with Boulder Creek Pizza and Pub to provide you all with super tasty pizza for lunch.  There will also be Clif bars to fuel you before and after lunch.

 - We will have water and other hydrating beverages available courtesy of Skratch Labs and Flux Coffee.  If you have a water bottle, please feel free to bring it with you.  Please note, there is not a water fountain at Indian Rock.

 - we will be getting tools and gloves from the Sanborn/Santa Clara County Parks department, you are also welcome to bring your own lucky shovel, push broom, or gloves.
