As you walk into the class, you’ll be greeted with hot milk chai.
We begin the class with Fish Kalia - a Bengali style fish curry cooked with fresh herbs, spices, fresh big fish, and potatoes. Bengalis are very fond of fresh and salt water fish; there are a variety of delicious fish curry recipes and this is one of them. You will find yourself returning to this very approachable recipe on random weeknights for dinner.
We will pair our Fish Kalia with Monama - spiced cauliflower. This dish goes very well with Fish Kalia or as part of a vegetarian meal. I'll also explain what you can do with Monama leftover (in case you have any!!)
We will enjoy our Fish Kalia and Monama with plain white rice.
Lastly, we will prepare Sooji Burfi - a cream of wheat bar that is very satisfying, yet on the healthier side.
This is a meal that I make on an ordinary night for dinner, doesn't get more authentic than that!
NOTE: this is a hands-on cooking class, you'll prep, cook, and eat during the class. You'll have an opportunity not only to learn some great recipes, but also good kitchen skills and practices. I prepare nothing ahead of time, we do everything during the class :) All of the ingredients will be fresh, nothing canned or preserved is allowed in my kitchen.
NOTE: this class doesn't have an appetizer, please eat a snack before coming in.
