A Series of Free Workshops and Events for Writers

 Monday, February 11, 2013

6:30-7:00pm Speed Writing: Each BWC workshop starts with a short writing exercise and an opportunity to meet and share with your fellow writers.

7:00-8:30pm Michael Mejias is the Director of Submissions at Writers House, the agency that has represented writers from Nora Roberts to Ken Follett to Neil Gaiman. Mr. Mejias will speak to and demystify the submissions process. He will also be answering questions from the audience.

Michael Mejias has worked at Writers House since 1999 and has reviewed over 300,000 submissions in that time. In 2002, he founded the Reading Series at the Kettle of Fish, a series that presented over 300 new authors to the publishing community, on its way to becoming a West Village staple. Additionally, he’s served as curator/ Master of Ceremonies for many literary events around town including Coliseum Books, Bank Street Books, Biography Books, the Bowery Poetry Club, the Telephone Bar, and the Nuyorican Poets Café.

Michael is also a playwright and his latest play, GHETTO BABYLON, is the winner of the 2012 National Latino Playwriting Award. In February, GHETTO BABYLON will receive a staged reading by the Arizona Theatre Company and, in August, it will be produced by the Dramatic Question Theatre (www.thedqt.org) at the 59E59 Theatres.

Maria Romano, Director of the Bronx Writers Center, writer and teacher, will host this workshop.
