We are pleased to announce that from the 8th to 10th March 2013 import•io in collaboration with KPMG and the Open Data Institute, will be running our first hackathon, with a theme of Open Data. As well as four category prizes, the Best In Show Prize includes an incubation space for three months from import•io and advisory services from KPMG!
Registration includes a fully refundable fee of £20. If you don't attend your fee (excluding Eventbrite's charges) will be donated to charity, which we will vote on during the weekend.
With companies and entire industries being built to exploit the value that is held in the increasing amounts of data being created and stored, this hackathon aims to find out where all this data is and what can we do with it. Participants will have access to import•io’s data extraction technology and expertise, allowing them to build new business ideas quickly.
Whether you are in development, design, business, or marketing we invite you to attend. The hackathon will begin at 6pm on 8th March at Google Campus, with an introductory talk from Gavin Starks, CEO of the Open Data Institute.
The judging panel for the weekend will include a senior tech journalist, Eze Vidra (Head of Google Campus) and David White (from import•io), with more people still to be confirmed. The winning team will be the one which is able to demonstrate, by the end of the weekend, a working product, a clear value proposition and workable business model, while using real-time data and displaying an innovative use of multiple datasets in a unique manner. There will be additional prizes for the best visualization of data and the best use of government / public sector data.
We are very excited to be hosting our very own first hackathon and hope that many of you will join us. For more information and updates prior and on this weekend keep an eye on our blog and follow us on our social media pages.
