IMAGINE=IMAGE Teen Workshop

Presented by the National Portrait Gallery and the Hirshhorn Museum's ARTLAB+

For Teens ages 14 - 18*

Dates: June 23th through June 26th, 2013, 10:00 AM–3:00PM

Does your school picture do you justice? Want to say more about who you are? Looking at famous people and portraits, using cameras, smart phones and more you will create a unique portrait during this 4-day workshop. What will your portrait say about YOU?

The National Portrait Gallery's IMAGINE=IMAGE Program uses the power of portraiture to prompt young people to closely examine themselves - who they are and who they aspire to be.  This year, the Portrait Gallery is teaming up with  the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden's ARTLAB+ staff to put a whole new spin on things!

Using digital media, students explore image-making by creating a portrait that reflects key aspects of what makes them who they are.  The final student portraits will incorporate and expand on ideas seen in the portraits at NPG, combining new digital skills that are learned through the use of technology at the Hirshhorn's ARTLAB+.  These portraits will explore issues central to the students in regards to self-image and what image they want to convey to the viewer.

The program will occur at both the National Portrait Gallery and the Hirshhorn's ArtLab.  Here is the general breakdown of time between the two museums:

Monday, June 23 - The program will take place at the Portrait Gallery all day

Tuesday, June 24 - The program begins at the Portrait Gallery and students will walk with museum staff down to the ArtLab where the program will end at 3:00 p.m.

Wednesday, June 25 - The program begins at the Portrait Gallery and students will walk with museums staff down to the ArtLab where the program will end at 3:00 p.m.
