Event Details

I’m happy to announce that the Task Force’s next meeting will take place on the 5th Floor, Room C-500 at the Michael A. Bilandic Building, 160 North LaSalle Street, Chicago, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. The meeting is expected to adjourn at about 6 p.m.

Task Force members and members of the public who are unable to attend in person are invited to call 888-494-4032 (PIN# 403-715-0212).

Johari Cole-Kweli and Bob Heuer will offer testimony to the Task Force, encouraging the State’s support of community-based food, nutrition and agricultural initiatives to reduce hunger and poverty.

Ms. Cole-Kweli, a former director of the Organic Farm Research Foundation and a founding member of the Illinois Local and Organic Food and Farm Task Force, is also a former Co-President of the Illinois Local Food Farms and Jobs Council. She continues to serve on the Council’s Executive Committee.

Mr. Heuer is a policy expert who has written extensively about agriculture, finance and regional economies. His consulting for the Farm Credit Council, the national trade group of America’s largest agricultural lenders, included the first financial-sector analysis of the local food marketplace and a report that led to the enactment of the Illinois Local Food Farms and Jobs Act of 2009. Mr. Heuer, a co-author of the new Wallace Center report, “Food Hubs: Small-farm Aggregators Scale Up with Large Buyers,” serves on the Illinois Local Food Farms and Jobs Council.

I look forward to seeing you on the 26th. Please confirm that you plan to attend. Thanks very much.

Warmest regards,

Marc J. Lane, Task Force Chair
