On behalf of Illinois Joining Forces (IJF), a statewide public/nonprofit initiative committed to making Illinois the best place for veterans to live, learn and work. Colleges and universities are invited to participate in free faculty training on how to better serve student veterans in the classroom. This effort is intended to familiarize faculty with military culture, transition issues facing many student veterans and practical tips on how to enhance their classroom experience.
The Education Working Group of the IJF is offering free "train the trainer" workshops. The veterans services coordinator and one faculty member are invited to attend from each institution. Participants will be provided with curriculum and training resourse to take back to their campuses. The curriculum was designed by the nonprofit adult learning organization, the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), who will also conduct the "train the trainer" sessions.
After training, this team would be equipped to meet your institution's faculty training needs. Faculty who complete th training will be awarded a "Veteran Ally" decal that they may place on their door, in addition to a "Veteran Ally" logo that they can include at the bottom of their course syllabus.
