Collaboration Workshops:  Discover, Plan and Prepare your Product Backlog

ellen gottesdiener

For continual delivery of high‐value product options, your agile team must reach a shared understanding of product needs. Although collaborative techniques are best for this work, not all agile teams use them, or use them efficiently. Others rely too heavily on a few tools (such as user stories or story maps), postponing complex topics and incurring excessive rework.

The solution is for product stakeholders to form a partnership to systematically collaborate on planning. Nimble, timely workshops give your team an effective venue for working together transparently to make complex decisions. We explore techniques for product backlog discovery and preparation, and we explain how to use seven dimensions to make sure you capture all product needs. You learn how to hold workshops (not merely meetings), how to adopt decision‐making practices essential to collaboration, and how to use value criteria to slice requirements options across product releases.

Join Ellen in this fast‐paced survey of key practices to engineer collaboration into your agile project to holistically discover, prepare, and deliver product needs.

Note:  Knowledge of and experience with agile projects is desirable, but not required to obtain value from this presentation. If you are using more traditional practices, you will find the principles discussed applicable and adaptable to your work world as well.
