 Unified Communications – The Reality

Unified Communications promises the blending of all communication means thereby allowing for seamless access to all modalities by a user.

The term Unified Communication(UC) surfaced some 10 years ago,  with its promise of day to day “Star Trek” like information and communication functionality. UC had claimed to be a disruptive capability that would allow for rapid ROI and boost productivity. Even though many of the capabilities are yet to be realized – the concept remains appealing even though the reality of deployment is more complex than initially promoted.

This talk focuses on the underlying technologies and describes the current state of UC as well as the shortfalls that need to be addressed to bring the full capabilities to reality. It also addresses some of the privacy and security requirements that need to be considered in any deployment.

Speaker Bio:

Peter holds a Ph.D. from Sheffield University(UK) and an MBA from San Jose State, he was elected to class of Fellow of the IEE (not to be confused with IEEE).
