It is time to start planning for a new season of summer feeding across the Hoosier state and we are excited to meet all the new and returning program sponsors! Attending a workshop will give you an opportunity to brush up on various aspects of successful program management and receive an update about recent SFSP policy changes. Before registering for a workshop, please take a moment to read carefully the following information:

  • All new and returning sponsors planning to operate the SFSP in 2014 must attend in-person SFSP training prior to the start of the program operations. At this time there are no plans to offer any training webinars.

  • A new training format: In 2014, all trainings are separated into two sessions:

New Sponsor Info Session – 9:00am -10:15am

This session is limited to brand new agencies (this is for agencies that have NEVER been on the program) interested in the SFSP sponsorship. It will provide a general overview of the program, sponsorship requirements and application process. Participation in this session is mandatory ONLY for the organizations that are new to the program or have skipped a year of SFSP sponsorship.

Returning Sponsor Refresher Workshop – 11:00am – 4:00pm

Attendance at this session is required for all new and returning sponsors alike.

There will be a brief break between the two sessions to accommodate the majority of participants joining the main training session (starting at 11 am). Please plan to be on time and not miss out on any part of the training or create distractions. In addition, all trainings are designed to accommodate different sponsor types in one setting. There will be no separation based on the type of the sponsoring agency.

Keep in mind that start times for all workshops correlate with the local time where the training is scheduled to take place.

  • Who should attend the training: The person(s) in charge of the day-to-day SFSP operations should participate. State Agency recommends two (2) individuals from each agency participate. However, due to the limited seating capacity at various locations, each organization is limited to a maximum of three (3) attendees. For the best selection, please register for the training session early since the registration may close early at some locations.

  • Bring along a valid picture ID: In some locations a security screening may be conducted at the entrance of the building. In order to pass the security check and properly record attendees, all participants are required to register at the entrance of the meeting room and present a valid picture ID.

  • Workshop participation is open to everybody: Although the completion of this free training is a mandatory prerequisite for all new and returning sponsors, it does not obligate any agency to complete the application process and become a SFSP sponsor nor does it render automatic approval for a sponsorship. For the purpose of determining sponsor eligibility, all agencies new to the SFSP are urged to first contact Tina Skinner at (317) 232-0858 or tskinner@doe.in.gov.

  • Come ready to learn: Since sponsors will not be separated by their program type, it is critical that you come prepared for a full day of rigorous training and jot down questions even ahead of time. It is our intent to answer your questions, however, due to the major differences between participating agencies, questions pertaining to a specific sponsor should be addressed privately after the training. A free packet of handout materials will be made available to each sponsoring agency. Attendees will break for lunch on their own. Feel free to bring along a light snack or beverage.

Please continue to read, if you plan to attend a training in Indianapolis: Due to the lack of close-by parking, plan to arrive early to allow enough time to go from a parking area to the conference center located on the first floor of the Indiana Government Center South. If needed, ask for additional assistance at the Information Desk to locate the meeting room.

  • Attendees will break for lunch on their own. A large café featuring basic hot and cold meal choices is located at a basement level of the conference center. The approximate workshop ending time is mid- to late- afternoon (before the rush hour traffic in the downtown).

We are looking forward to seeing you!

If you have questions or need more information, contact Tina Skinner, at (317)232-0858, tskinner@doe.in.gov.
