Getting to Graduation: Looking Beyond Academics for College Success

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Morgan Stanley, 1585 Broadway, 6th Floor

6:30-8:30pm

An estimated 63% of jobs will require a college education by 2018, yet only 33% of young people from low-income communities enroll in college. Even when academically prepared, students from low-income communities graduate college at much lower rates than their peers from higher income communities. This discrepancy reveals that the obstacle to college success isn't just about academics. Recent research shows that a variety of non-academic skills, such as perseverance, networking, and self-advocacy can improve college success for all students. This panel, hosted by iMentor and Morgan Stanley, will explore factors behind the college graduation gap for low-income students and how schools, individuals, and communities can provide support--beyond academics--to young people on their path to success. Wine and cheese reception to follow.
