The Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada has partnered with the Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities and the Reno Access Advisory Committee to once again bring the iCan Bike Program to Reno!
In 2013 The Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada brought the iCan Shine organization to Northern Nevada for the first time. The results were incredible! Success in learning to ride a bicycle is a major accomplisment and learning to ride builds confidence while improving self-image. Thanks to the hard work of staff, volunteers and the riders themselves, 80% of riders learned to ride a bike completely independently by the end of the 5-day camp.
iCan Bike uses adapted bicycles, a specialized instructional program, and a trained staff to teach individuals with disabilities how to ride a bike. Riders attend the same 75-minute session each day for five consecutive days (Monday - Friday) and they are physcially assisted and encouraged by two volunteer spooters. One of these volunteers must be secured by you and your rider. Details will be listed in the registration form. As you register, you will rank the time slots from one to five. The times are on a first come, first served basis:
- Session 1 is now full!
- Session 2 is now full!
- Session 3 is now full!
- Session 4 is now full!
- Session 5 is now full!
Over the course of the 5-day camp the adapted bike is adjusted to gradually introduce more instability in an effort to challenge riders at their own individual pace. The week is concluded with a touching and inspiring award ceremony!
Rider must meet all criteria below to be eligible for iCan Bike Camp:

Parents/guardians are asked to stay on site during the 75 minute session for their rider each day for emergency purposes, personal care for your rider, and so that you don't miss their special achievements and success.
There will be an orientation for parents/guardians and volunteers. We ask the riders do not attend the orientation meeting. More information will be given at the end of the registration form.
