Event Details

Please join ICAA Rocky Mountain Chapter for an intimate view of the Cathedral of St. John in the
Wilderness.

The original church was located at 20th & Welton and was destroyed by fire in 1903. The present
day St John’s Cathedral, located at 1350 Washington Street, broke ground in 1909 with the first
service in the new church held in 1911. St John’s Cathedral was designed by New York architects,
Tracy and Swartwout, in a Gothic style that was intentionally modeled after the Canterbury
Cathedral and Westminster Abbey in England. Of the original design, the two transepts, choir and
great tower have never been built. Only the nave was completed of limestone with a “temporary”
brick chancel. The height of the ceiling in the Nave is 65 feet. It is 185 feet long and 52 feet wide.
