i-Tree Hydro Training Workshop

The EPA is encouraging the use of natural processes and Green Infrastructure to help manage urban stormwater. Because of this, more cities are entertaining the thought of using their natural resources as a stormwater mitigating strategy to help reduce stormwater runoff and improve water quality.
Many urban hydrology models exist, however, few take into account tree/shrub canopy effects on stormwater management. The i-Tree Hydro model (http://itreetools.org/hydro/index.php) is a public domain hydrology model developed by stormwater engineers and U.S. Forest Service scientists. It simulates the effects of changes in tree and impervious cover characteristics within a defined area of interest on stream flow and water quality. It was designed specifically to handle urban vegetation effects so urban natural resource managers, stormwater managers, and urban planners can quantify the impacts of changes in tree and impervious cover on local hydrology to aid in management and planning decisions.
The College of Architecture, Center for GIS at The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) will host a two-day, hands-on training workshop taught by the i-Tree Hydro developers on March 12 and 13, 2014. At this workshop the participant will learn to adequately use the i-Tree Hydro model for various project types as well as understand the model’s basic assumptions and limitations. Project-based scenarios from a local (Atlanta) watershed, municipality, and parcel will be used.
The i-Tree Hydro software would be a great tool for your Green Infrastructure toolbox. Because of the hands-on, intensive level of training this workshop will be limited to the first 25 registrants. Ten hours of Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided for Professional Engineers (a final agenda and Certificate of Completion will be provided for your records).
