Event Details

Thanks to all of you who have signed up to be a part of the Giant Human Peace Symbol tomorrow. There has been a “surge” in interest in the past week and I am sure that we will have a successful event tomorrow.

The weather is supposed to be much warmer than the last couple of days. The latest forecasts are predicting temps in the 40’s and partly cloudy. Keep in mind that we will not be moving much and wear enough layers to stay warm. Also, the ground will probably thaw and may be soggy so you may want to bring something to sit on. Some people have requested chairs but I have not been able to secure many. If you need a chair it would be best if you could bring your own.

The lawn at Copley is sort of a light tan/brown color. I wrote earlier that people should avoid wearing green but that won’t be a problem based on the dead grass. Bright colored clothing is definitely recommended.

Yesterday, I did a practice run with a photographer from the Prudential Tower Skywalk. We will definitely have some good photos from that vantage point.

The schedule is still as follows:

10:00 – 12:00 Laying out of Peace Symbol on the ground. If anyone wants to show up early and help with this you are more than welcome.

12:00 – 1:00 Checking in and filling up the Peace Symbol. I hope to have everyone in place by 1:00 because that is when the press (if they show) is expected to arrive.

1:00 – 2:00 Depending on weather and how people feel, we can maintain the formation until 2:00 or break up a little earlier.

Things to bring-

Something to sit on – blankets, chairs, boxes, etc.

Warm and colorful clothes.

Flags, banners, signs, etc.

Leaflets for upcoming activities to share.

Tables for anti-war literature.

I think that’s all. I’ll see you tomorrow.

1009 Human Peace Symbol

March 10th 2007

On March 10th, hundreds of people will form a 100’ diameter peace symbol in Copley Square to call for an end to the war and to promote the upcoming demonstrations around the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq including March 24th on Boston Common.

If you are available on March 10th, please register above. This event is free of charge and open to everyone opposed to the war.

A permit has been filed with the City of Boston for this event and permission will be sought to photograph the event from neighboring buildings (hopefully the Hancock).

March 10th Schedule:

12:00-1:00 PM - Registration and formation of peace symbol.

1:00-2:00 PM - Maintain peace symbol for 1 hour. Hopefully, we can get some news copters to fly over.

Suggestions for the event:

Bring or wear lots of colorful items (except green because we9ll be on grass).

Depending on the weather you may want to bring blankets or something to lay on.

If you have any suggestions or questions please contact: info@stopthewars.org

Greater Boston Stop the Wars Coalition

What we stand for: We call for an end to this criminal war on the Iraqi people, to bring all the troops home now, and for the redirection of resources to further justice, equality, and human needs here at home, not death and misery. Bring the troops home now! End the occupation of Iraq! Stop the attacks against Arabs, Muslims and all people of color! From the Gulf Coast to New England and beyond… Fund human needs, not war and occupation! Military recruiters out of our schools! How we do our work Stop the Wars Coalition has based itself organizationally on the way the coalitions for the March 20, 2005 rally in Boston, and the October 29, 2005 march and rally, were organized. These coalitions formed based on agreement on public actions focused on immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. Any group or any person in agreement with the objective was welcome to participate fully. Decision-making meetings were open and widely publicized. Democratic procedure was followed. Efforts were made to reach consensus, but votes were sometimes taken. Outreach included inviting groups to present their own slogans in building events, inviting groups to express their concerns from the speaker's platform, endorsing actions initiated by other groups, and inviting groups to announce and publicize their own separate actions through the coalition structure. Demands relevant to the antiwar struggle were adopted as slogans of the M20 or O29 actions. STWC has sought to promote unity and non-exclusion in the antiwar effort. www.stopthewars.org
