Please join us for an evening of presentations around HTML5 technologies.

Day by day, the number of devices, platforms, and browsers that need to work with your site grows. Responsive design is not just another technique—it is the beginning of the maturing of a medium and a fundamental shift in the way we think about the web for the decade to come.

Travis Skweres is a front-end developer, designer, and serial entrepreneur from Houston, Texas. His range of experience includes building and launching startup ideas of his own as well as contracting for clients large and small. With a specialty in responsive design and mobile apps, Travis has been designing websites and apps for any screen size since before the term responsive was coined. He's currently working on a stealth startup for Bitcoin (shhh), and in his off time enjoys hiking and Kung Fu.

Travis, an HTML5LA member will be sharing his expertise with you and walk you thru building a responsive site.

BaM will be showcasing their new HTML5 browser game "Bored-to-Death" that was featured @SXSW. Alex Porter and Kyle Werner hail from independent digital agency Bradley and Montgomery (BaM). The firm is known for pushing boundaries in HTML5 for clients like Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). The pair will discuss what they learned developing a multi-player, HTML5 game and best practices for modern web development they learned creating modern.IE

Marshmallow People: Bored to Death
Bored To Death is a multi-player, in-browser, arcade game built entirely in HTML5. The game is based on characters from the Marshmallow People web cartoons by Jason Steele.

BaM developers used the HTML5 game engine, Impact JS, to create a brawler, which functions in the browser and without the use of plugins. Impact JS takes advantage of HTML5’s canvas, JavaScript and other features of modern browsers (like Internet Explorer 10) to deliver fast, fluid games. Using their prior knowledge of HTML5 and JavaScript, the BaM team developed the game in a matter of weeks, not months.

“The best special effects are the ones you never notice,” said Dominic Szablewski, creator of the Impact JS engine. “The same is true for technology in games: if people don't realize they're playing a browser game, it's the ultimate achievement. Marshmallow People did this in the awesomest possible way.”

As websites continually need to work across more and more technologies, responsive design and standards-based development is becoming an important requirement. The BaM development team worked with Internet Explorer to build modern.IE, a hub with free tools and resources, allowing developers to spend less time testing versions of IE.

The site also includes a suite of analysis tools which help developers identify and solve potential bugs, guides them on best practices for multiple browsers and devices, and assists them in building touch-enabled sites for the Windows 8 platform.

Bradley and Montgomery is a full-service ad agency that creates a lot more than ads: magnetic destinations, events, and sharable artifacts that attract people to them. BaM works with some of the world's biggest brands, including Microsoft, VH1, MTV and JP Morgan Chase. http://www.bamideas.com
