So, how do you form that relationship? How do you engage and convince an angel investor to believe in your idea and put money on the table? In this special discussion, we bring together two of the leading angel investment firms in the country--NY Angels and Golden Seeds--which combined represents over 350 investors and thousands of invested companies. Joining them are two successful entrepreneurs--Laurel Touby and Alain Obertoman--who will talk about the highs and lows of working with angels. Discussion topics will include:

Brian S. Cohen, Chairman, New York Angels.
As an angel investor and mentor to entrepreneurs, Brian now serves as Chairman of the New York Angels which has invested over $53 million into more than 70 early stage technology companies. Brian was the first investor in Pinterest and numerous other industry leading startups.
As a new author, Brian‘s book entitled “What Every Angel Investor Wants You To Know: An Insider Reveals How To Get Smart Funding For Your Billion Dollar Idea” will be published and released by McGraw Hill in April 2013.
Rob Delman, Managing Director, Golden Seeds
Rob is Managing Director of Golden Seeds, an angel investor organization targeting women-led ventures with the potential to grow into multi-million dollar business, and a Limited Partner in the Golden Seeds Fund 1 and Fund 2, ARC Angel Fund, Canrock Ventures and BluePrint Health, all of which invest in seed and early-stage companies with high growth potential. Rob serves as an Entrepreneur in Residence at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) and also as an Advisor, Columbia University Lang Center for Entrepreneurship where he has co-taught the MBA-level classes “Introduction to Venturing” and as an executive mentor in “Launching New Ventures” and “The Greenhouse Program.”
Rob was previously Vice President, NY for Astia, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to propel women’s full participation as entrepreneurs and leaders in high-growth businesses, fueling innovation and driving economic growth. He currently serves on Astia’s NYC Advisory Board. Rob has also been a mentor for Springboard Enterprises, a leading platform where entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts meet to build great women-led businesses.
Laurel Touby, Startup Investor & Advisor
Laurel Touby is a managing partner at REDBOOKS.com and the founder of mediabistro.com, a journalism and publishing resource site that she sold to Jupitermedia in 2007 for $23 million. Ms. Touby started her career at Working Woman, moved on to Business Week as a Staff Editor and in 1993 began editing and writing a column on workplace issues for Glamour. Prior to her career in journalism, she was a Senior Media Planner at advertising agency Young & Rubicam. She serves as a mentor for Techstars LLC and is on the Media Task Force of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Ms. Touby was awarded the Smith College Medal in 2011 and The Exceptional Women in Publishing award from EWIP.org. The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce honored her with the “Entrepreneur of the Year Award“ in 2007. Ms. Touby graduated from Smith College in 1985 with a degree in Economics.
Alain Oberotman, Co-Founder and Director, Messagemind
Alain Oberrotman is a co-founder and Director of Messagemind, an enterprise social intelligence software company and co-author of company patents. He has been involved in angel financing as investor, recipient and advisor.
Alain has more than 25 years of business experience in various management, consulting and private equity positions. He served, in some capacity, on more than 15 Board of Directors for small and large, public and private companies.
Prior to Messagemind, Alain has held positions as the Worldwide Controller for McKinsey & Co, and developed and implemented workout and exit strategies as Principal for venture capital firm, Hambro International Equity Partners and hedge fund, Odyssey Partners, L.P. He has deep operational experience and has worked extensively with software and technology companies.
