This workshop will begin with a basic introduction to mesh networking where we'll discuss why building mesh networks is important, and what you can do with them once they exist. Next we'll move on to an overview of wireless networking concepts. Just the basics; frequency, speeds, and line of sight concerns. Then, we'll actually get our hands dirty as we set up nanobridges and get them connected to each other in a mesh network right inside of CivicLab! Finally, we'll end with a little human networking as we hang out and get to know each other better. This class requires no technical experience whatsoever, just an interest and willingness to learn. Although we won't get bogged down into the technical weeds, facilitators will be on hand for those who wish to explore deeper questions of theory and implementation.
Note: There are two types of tickets for this class. One ticket is for the class only. The other ticket is for the class and the equipment neccessary for you to set up your own node to join the Chicago Mesh Network!
