How Families Can Support Social and Emotional Learning for Your Child’s Success in School.

Free workshop.

Come hear Dr. Ruth Cross share how you can make a positive impact on your child’s academic success by supporting social and emotional learning. Social and emotional skills are critical to being a good student, citizen and worker. Dr. Cross is the Illinois training specialist for the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL). Her experience includes 34 years as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent. As a building principal she was instrumental in the implementation of programs that enable students to acquire skills to improve interpersonal relationships and prevent conflict. Many risky behaviors (e.g., drug use, violence, bullying and dropping out) can be prevented or reduced when multiyear, integrated efforts are used to develop students' social and emotional skills. This program will help you understand the importance of social and emotional learning and adhering to the Illinois social and emotional learning standards. Learn how your involvement can play a significant role by encouraging student engagement in positive activities in and out of the classroom.
