Horseshoe Crab Spawning Survey Training for DNERR Volunteers
2012 Horseshoe Crab Spawning Survey
Come help DNERR with the 2012 Horseshoe Crab Spawning Survey!
We are gearing up for a great survey this year and we invite anyone interested in this facinating creature to come participate in one of the best ecological surveys out there!
This training teaches all volunteers the proper survey methods, and it also provides a background on the life history of the horseshoe crab and its management so you will be prepped and ready to go on the survey before the start of the season!
Survey training is required for the three beaches the Reserve coordinates (Kitts Hummock, North Bowers, Ted Harvey). You must attend a volunteer training session if you've never participated in the survey before.
Participants will also be able to select their preferred dates to volunteer with the survey at the training, so be sure to know your schedules for May and June when you attend! (2012 survey nights are posted on the DNERR website here.)
Please follow the links on this site to register yourself and/or your group for the training.
The horseshoe crab volunteer training dates are as follows (you only need to attend one):
Thursday, April 5, 2012 – 6:00 – 7:30 pm St. Jones Reserve, Dover, DE
Saturday, April 14, 2012 – 10:00 – 11:30 am St. Jones Reserve, Dover, DE
Our mission at the DNERR is to preserve and manage natural resources through coastal stewardship within the Reserve as a place for research, and for providing education and outreach programs that promote better understanding of Delaware’s estuarine and coastal areas, and to promote informed coastal decision-making.
