Hope For Ethan 5K
Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM (PDT)
Hope For Ethan is a 5K designed to help bring awareness to an incurable disease called Anencephaly; specifically, to help Nick and Lauren Bishop in their journey ahead.
I'm sure some of you have never heard of this disease as neither Nick, nor Lauren, had heard of it before their precious Ethan was diagnosed. Anencephaly is a congenital birth defect that occurs in approximately one in ten thousand pregnancies. It is a neural tube defect. Life expectancy for a baby with Anencephaly after birth is just a few hours, sometimes a few days at most. As the malformation is usually detected during a pre-natal scan, parents are confronted with a choice between life and death.
Nick and Lauren found out Ethan had Anencephaly on January 22,2013. Ethan's due date was July 13, 2013, however, to ensure they had as much time with him as possible, they decided to have a scheduled c-section on June 19th. On that day, Ethan lived for a glorious 21 minutes.
