Event Details

Shea Yeleen International is pleased to honor one of our shea producer partners, Eugenia Akuete, at our October benefit reception in New York City.  A non-profit (501c3), Shea Yeleen's mission is to promote sustainable economic development and empower women in rural West Africa though the organization and training of women-owned shea butter cooperatives.

The benefit reception will highlight Ms. Akuete's work as an innovative leader and trainer supporting the development of cooperatives in Ghana.  We will also announce the launch of our Soap Campaign, a new initiative to train shea butter cooperatives in Ghana to produce and market their own black soap products locally and in the US.

Refreshments will be served.  More details, including speakers, entertainment, and media, will be posted soon on our website.

Thank you for joining us as we honor an inspiring individual who empowers women to succeed!

Organizer

Shea Yeleen International

Founded in 2005 by a Peace Corps Volunteer, Shea Yeleen International works to promote sustainable economic development and empower women in rural West Africa through organizing and training women-owned shea butter cooperatives, and to educate consumers in the U.S. about fair trade shea butter.
Shea butter is a valuable commodity sourced directly from rural West Africa, yet most rural residents have not benefited from growing demand on the lucrative international market.  To address this economic disconnect, SYI offers trainings, technical assistance, and advocates for increased market access to help women-owned cooperatives in West Africa create a competitive product to sell on the international market, secure better-than-fair trade prices, and ultimately provide for themselves and their families.
