Homesteading Bootcamp- Summer Edition w/ the farmers at Seven Arrows

Ever wanted to learn how to grow, make and preserve your own food in a small space but need some hands-on guidance to do so?
Join Meg Paska and Micahel Meier of Brooklyn Homesteader as they teach you how to raise chickens, keep bees, grow a garden, compost, forage, can, pickle, preserve and homebrew all from the Homestead at Seven Arrows, a new farm she manages an hour outside of NYC.
Coffee and homemade donuts will be served in the morning before the class commences.
It will tentatively go as follows:
- Planning and Starting a Vegetable Garden (with an emphasis on fall gardening)
- Chickens & Rabbits 101
- Food Preservation (Freezing, Drying, Canning, Fermentation)
- LUNCH ON THE BBQ
- Beekeeping 101
- Home Dairy (making goat yogurt and fresh cheese)
- Wild Edibles
- WIND DOWN with local beers at the cottage!
Attendees will get hands on experience in all aspects of the above mentioned topics and will leave with care packages of assorted goodies! (Samples of cheese, wild edibles and herbs)

Students are expected to bring notepads and pens, dress in light color clothes. Please be willing to sign a waiver, as we will be getting up close and personal with stinging, venomous insects, boiling hot jars of food and eating weeds from the nearby park. At the end of the class, students will be given access to a resources page where they can continue learning about teh subjects covered in this class!
All other materials are included in the cost of the class. Seven Arrows is accessible from NYC via Seastreak. Please contact us to arrange for pick up at the ferry, directions by bike or if you plan on driving so we can tell you where to park.
Meg Paska is Huffington Post blogger and instructor at such fine institutions as The New York Botanical Gardens and Third Ward. She is currently starting a diversified CSA farm on the New Jersey shore, manages apiaries for hospitality groups in the NY area and has a book on Urban Beekeeping due out on Chronicle Books in 2013.
Farmer Michael came to Seven Arrows after several years of farming and homesteading in NYC. Most recently, he was Farm Manager at the renowned Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm, growing, teaching, and developing best practices for innovative urban ag on more than two acres of rooftop space.
When & Where
Former Brooklyn urban farmer Meg Paska has taken what she learned about intensive urban growing and applied it to small acreage in Monmouth County, NJ. Working alongside Seven Arrows East, a year-round yoga retreat, The Homestead functions as a small, diversified CSA farm and learning place. Farming workshops also take place year-round.
