Homebrew To The Rescue

Fine drinkers! The victims of Sandy need you to guzzle loads of beer. It's the charitable thing to do—at least, it will be on December 15.

Please join us when 10 of New York City's finest homebrewers take over CrossFit South Brooklyn for a one-of-a-kind charity event to support organizations doing real, on-the-ground work for victims of Sandy. (That does not mean you, Red Cross.)

In addition to unlimited samples of some of the city's best homebrewed beer, you'll be treated to meats, cheeses and other tasty, top-secret snacks. There will be a raffle with killer prizes from Sycamore Bar & Flowershop, Four & Twenty Blackbirds, Brooklyn Homebrew and CrossFit South Brooklyn just to name a few!

You can get tipsy, stuff your gut and help New Yorkers who need it most? It's a win-win for everyone. Today, let your liver do the heavy lifting.

Update!  We've decided to split the proceeds from this event to the 2 charities below:

The Graybeards

Following 9/11, a men’s basketball league in Rockaways turned itself into a nonprofit community service organization with 150 members whose goal is to support the development and welfare of Rockaways, while promoting patriotism and the education of young people on the peninsula. Since then, the Graybeards have held fundraisers and social events for wounded veterans and last summer raised $5,000 for funeral costs of a 13-year-old who died of a heart condition. In the wake of Sandy, Graybeards are looking to raise $500,000 for recovery efforts including housing for the displaced. To contribute go here.

Our mission is to provide free hot soup delivered into the homes of Rockaway residents. With the help of many volunteers, we have committed ourselves to offering our neighbors a sustainable system of support. We are serving over 600 meals a day, to residents of public housing buildings as well as our neighbors who are in small private homes. At the moment this need is all the more pressing as there is still no power, hot water or heat in Rockaway as a result of Hurricane Sandy. We are keenly aware, that once the power comes back on, the difficult economic and emotional realities will continue. Rather than be discouraged by our collective loss, as we visit homes, we will serve as a reminder that people do care about Rockaway residents, and we have not been abandoned.  Check out them out on facebook for the most up to date info.
